Since my marathon, I have been quite the running slacker. I head to the gym and am neither mentally nor physically prepared. I think back to the time when I would run 15 miles and now I struggle to make it to 3 miles, but to be honest not much has changed from then to now. So then I got to thinking and realized that I am a runner that NEEDS a goal or a race to keep me on track. Having a goal enables me to be mentally prepared for workouts and gives each workout a purpose and reason. A goal, for me, drives me to being better…
So I decided that my goal for the winter will be speed. I think if I work on my speed it will result in a better 2012 marathon time (and experience). I wasn’t exactly sure how to go about setting a speed goal, but then I decided that I would complete a 5K (3.1 miles). Because 5Ks are reflective of speed, right? Well, anyway, that is my plan. I am going to work to improve my 5K time. A longer term winter goal will be to complete another half marathon.
After deciding on my goal, I headed right to the gym to track my speed. I ended up running 4 miles but looked down at mile 3.1 to see my time, which was 22 mins 20 seconds. I am not really sure what that means or if it is good, but I know that by the time I run my 5K race I will be running it a lot faster :)
What can you run a 5K in? Where do you get your motivation?
