Shopping Addiction Cure

Okay, so I have a shopping addiction. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, right? I just cannot help it. I love clothing, shoes, accessories and things. My shopping addiction has got me into a bit of trouble though aka I have no money. So post-Black Friday I decided to put myself on a budget. But as we all know it is Christmas time, which means I will be splurging on gifts for the family; therefore, my budget won’t really be possible until 2012. My goal for the rest of 2011 is to not buy myself ANYTHING (besides alcohol, transportation tickets and food). I will let you know how that one goes haa.

Anyway, back to the Erin loving clothing, shoes, accessories and things thing. Well, since I can’t purchase myself new things, I figure I can use what I have to make things. Perfect solution – don’t spend money and feel like I have new things. Smartest girl.

DIY T-Shirt Necklace

This project is sUpEr simple! All you need is an old (or new) t-shirt (the bigger the better) and a pair of scissors.  I picked an old gray t-shirt because gray goes with a lot. For my next one, I might get wild and use a bright yellow or bright blue t-shirt.

Here are the DIY steps

1. Cut off the bottom hem of the t-shirt and throw it away. Then start cutting 1 inch strips of the t-shirt up until you reach the armpit. I ended up with about 16 strips and believe me mine were NOT clean, even or straight, which is fine.

2. Group all of your strips together and stretch them. I was really surprised at how much I could stretch the loops. Depending on what you want the final product to look like will determine how much you decide to stretch your loops.

3. The t-shirt that I used had seams on both sides. So to cover these up, I used one of my 16 strips.   Cut the strip that you are going to use in half and create a coil over the seams. Then tie the two ends together in a bow. This part of the necklace won’t be seen, but if it is ever seen it will look cute with a bow :)

4. Style time. Now you have to figure out how you want to wear your necklace. I looped mine around my neck twice and staggered the length – one loop closer to my neck and one loop longer.

And here is a selfy of my necklace hahah embarrassing but had to be done.

Happy Sunday,
E
